Asian Center for WTO and International Health Law and Policy (ACWH), College of Law, National Taiwain University

After Taiwan joined the WTO as its 144th member on January 1, 2002, the WTO Research Center was established at NTU College of Law in January 2003 to enhance WTO research. In December 2005, it was expanded into the Asian Center for WTO & International Health Law and Policy (ACWH) to reflect its broader scope.

Originally focused on international trade law, ACWH now covers three key areas: international economic law (WTO and investment), international health law (e.g., the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, International Health Regulations), and international arbitration (commercial and investor-State). It monitors WTO rule developments, analyzes their impact on Taiwan’s economy, and provides policy recommendations.

Despite limited resources, ACWH trains students in international economic and health law, organizes three to four annual conferences, and publishes two semiannual English journals: the Asian Journal of WTO & Int’l Health Law and Policy (SSCI-listed) and the Contemporary Asia Arbitration Journal (ESCI-listed). It also advises government agencies, facilitates joint research, and fosters dialogue with international scholars.
